Mr. Nguyen Van Cuu, born ín 1954, is living at 38B Hòa Chánh Hamlet, Son Hoa Village, Chau Thành District. Before 1975, he served as Private E1 of Platoon KHA 039 in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam at Tan Thach Hamlet, former Truc Giang District, Ben Tre Province. He lost both of his legs for stepping on a mine during the war in 1974, at the age of 22. He's now making his living by catching fish with a net while his wife Đang Thi Be Hai buys and sells junk to make their ends meet. He requests for help to rebuild his house.
Since his house stands very far from the main route, construction materials can only be brought there by small boat which makes it more expensive for the building process. On top of that, due to his disabilities, Mr. Cưu cannot be of help like other homeowners so the initial sponsor money is just not enough for the house to be built. Feeling for a man who lost his youth and life in the war and now living in poverty, an anonymous person pooled in an extra $500 so the house can be properly built. This is a small gift to comfort him in the twilight of his life.
